Well Projects is excited to present ‘Dreaming-X’ a solo exhibition and screening of a new film by Antonia Luxem.
'Dreaming X' follows a queer woman's dreamlike journey inside a mysterious and dark universe on which she encounters a number of puzzling characters. The disorientated and hallucinatory journey, intensified by the confrontation with these societal archetypes, eventually leads her to a troupe of circus performers and magicians, who help her find herself.
The film draws on Antonia’s research on the intersections between phenomenology and queerness, most significantly discovered in the ideas of Sara Ahmed in her book “Queer Phenomenology”: how is it that people arrive to certain places? Why are we taken or pulled from one space to another, unconsciously? How do we make the strange feel familiar? Building on the history of queer cinema, where lesbian representation is scarce, the film seeks to create a new language for lesbian identity and sisterhood.
Antonia Luxem creates films to explore different realities and bodies, and to transport viewers to new mental spaces. Her films are inspired by research in neurology and philosophy, in particular the idea of human perception. Recently her subject matters have expanded to include questions of queer identity and homophobia, in order to share her experience as a lesbian and participate in the expansion of LGBTQ+ culture – challenging the system which has made that experience what it is.
Recent screenings and exhibitions include Fragment Gallery, Moscow; B3 Biennale of the moving image, Frankfurt; Swiss Church, London; Turf Projects, Croydon; Whitstable Biennale; Guest Projects, London. Recent film festivals include New York Independent Film Festival, New York; Underwire Film Festival, London; KINOSKOP Analogue Festival, Belgrade; Traverse Video, Toulouse; and East End Film Festival, London.
Whilst booking is not required to see the exhibition, if you intend to visit with a group (between 3-6 persons) please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the desired date of your visit. This helps us to ensure safe visits to Well Projects!
